There are more than 70,000 different types of Promotional Merchandise that is available to the market today. And I have had my fair share of prospect telling me that they stopped using promotional merchandise because it just not work for them and would stop trying to listen.
Many of them do not realize that the problem might not be with the concept of using promotional merchandise but the selection of the right promotional merchandise.
Buying very expensive promotional merchandise would not guarantee the success of your project or promotion. It’s the same thing with buying very cheap inexpensive promotional merchandise. People failed to see that the key in effective using promotional merchandise would be the selecting the right promotional merchandise that would fit what you are trying to achieve.
More than giving the most number of impressions for your advertising budget, they main goal is to selecting a promotional merchandise that would eventually be in front of your clients at the time they would need your product or services the most.
Let’s take this example, two bicycle parts and tire dealers giving out promotional merchandise to their clients. One handed out pens with his company name and phone number and the other gave out tire repair kits with the same information.
Quick question, when would you need to buy new bicycle tires? What are the chances that their prospective client would have the pen with them at this time? If you happen to have a flat tire, I’m pretty sure you would be looking for the tire repair kit you got from the other company and guess what they will see, their company name and contact numbers.
Case 2. Two restaurants promoting their delivery service, one spends glossy and attractive flyers and the other bought some White board fridge magnet.
When you are hungry at home, most of the time you would go to the fridge and check out if there is anything there you can eat. Unable to find anything in the fridge so you close the door. Guess what you would see next, “Tasty China Quick Delivery Service, 0999 999 9999”.
Basically, there are 3 important things to consider in choosing the right promotional merchandise.
1. Who are your Target Clients?
2. Where would they usually be at the time they need your service?
3. What would they be doing at that exact time they need your product or services the most?
